Oliver is an audio professional who specializes in working with teams to create compelling, engaging podcasts. They’re an editor with a decade of experience shaping story and developing strong show identities for local and national newsrooms, nonprofits and public radio stations. Oliver also provides sensitivity editing around LGBTQ stories, gender, polyamory, neurodiversity, and kink.

Oliver works as senior producer on The Anti-Trans Hate Machine: A Plot Against Equality. They took the first season from development through launch, collaboratively working to develop narrative structure through multiple episodes, and bringing out the host’s authentic voice to ground the series. This work won NLGJA’s Excellence in Podcasting Award in 2022. Currently, Oliver’s overseeing production and content for the second season of the show as well as the newsmagazine interview show The TransLash Podcast with Imara Jones, which they were the lead producer in developing.

In the past, Oliver took the podcast Brave, Not Perfect with Reshma Saujani from an interview format show to a dynamic, award-winning podcast with narrative arcs running through both seasons and individual episodes—all while quadrupling the audience. They also built Mother Jones magazine’s flagship podcast, designing the show to be more sound-rich and narrative-driven than most other political podcasts.

In addition to being a talented story editor, Oliver has a deep commitment to elevating underrepresented voices and making more space for marginalized people in the industry. They’re one of the co-founders of the Trans Journalists Association, which provides resources to trans journalists and their allies.

Oliver has been honored as a rising voice in audio storytelling in the Gotham/Variety Audio Honors for innovation in storytelling in 2022. They are a graduate of Neon Hum’s Editors’ Bootcamp and a 2019 AIR New Voices Scholar. Their work has been honored by The Webby Awards, the The Association of LGBTQ Journalists (NLGJA) and the Online News Association. Additionally, Oliver has given talks at prominent conferences such as Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE) and the Online News Association (ONA).
